The Farm
Lucky Dog Farm is a NOFA-NY Certified Organic farm located in Hamden, NY, in the valley that the Delaware River cuts through the Catskill Mountains. We own 45 acres and lease an additional 115 acres of adjacent land, all deep loam soil that the river and the glaciers deposited here between the rocky hills. In any given year we’ll have 45 to 50 acres actively cultivated in organic vegetables with the remainder in a cover crop used to enrich our farm-made compost.
Richard Giles and Holley White-Giles, both natives of the South, started the farm in the spring of 2000. Today, Richard runs the farm assisted by crew of talented, local young people with some additional seasonal help. Holley manages our store and cafe, helping out on the farm whenever possible. We sell a great variety of organic vegetables locally at Pakatakan Farmers Market near Margaretville, NY, at the Cooperstown, NY Farmers Market and at Callicoon Farmers Market in Sullivan County, NY.
We also sell to groceries and restaurants in New York City through Angello’s Distributing, a small company committed to local, organic and biodynamic foods.
It’s also a little-known fact that we’ll sell you bulk quantities of produce directly from the farm! Check out our Direct Wholesale page for weekly offerings and our order form.
In our time here we have become very involved in farmland preservation and in the project of building a food system on and beyond our own farm - a system to grow and deliver fresh local food to our neighbors.
